Grilled Bacon Candy

Food and Wine magazine served as the inspiration for this simple recipe. What could be better than sweet and spicy bacon? Not much! Feel free to take the flavor profile of this creation in any direction you like. Grilling the bacon adds a whole new layer of flavor that you just can’t get in the oven.

  • Prep: 10 mins
  • Cook: 15 mins
  • Yields: 20 pieces of heaven

Ingredients

1/2 cup packed light brown sugar

1 teaspoon cayenne powder

1 teaspoon chili powder

20 slices of thick cut bacon

Directions

1Preheat your grill to medium heat- 400F

2In a small bowl, whisk the brown sugar with the cayenne and chili powders.

3Arrange the bacon strips on a sheet pan.

4Sprinkle half the sugar/pepper mixture evenly over the bacon.

5Carefully flip bacon pieces over and sprinkle with remaining sugar/pepper mixture.

6Transfer bacon to preheated grill and allow to cook for 5-7 minutes.

7With tongs, carefully flip the bacon over to it’s other side and allow to cook for an additional 5-7 minutes.

8Depending on how crispy or chewy you like your bacon it may be finished earlier or later- you will just have to pay close attention towards the end of the cook.

9Remove bacon from grill to clean pan and allow to cool.

Make Ahead: Bacon Candy can be made earlier in the day and stored at room temperature.
