Beer Bathed Brats

One method of cooking bratwurst we have seen has you actually steaming the brats in beer and then finishing on the grill. In our recipe we skip the initial steam bath and simply bathe the brats in beer while they are on the grill. GrillGrates are the only grilling surface that allows you to pull of this technique due to the unique flavor catching valleys between the raised rails.

  • Prep: 5 mins
  • Cook: 20 mins
  • Yields: 6 tasty brats

Ingredients

6 bratwurst

24oz beer of your choice

6 hoagie rolls

toppings of your choice

Directions

1Preheat grill to medium high

2Remove brats from package and place on grill

3Turn/roll occasionally allowing brats to gently brown

4Bathe brats on grill with half of the beer about 10 minutes into the cook

5When brats begin to split roll them split side up and pour more beer into the opening. Enjoy the aroma!

6Cook for another 5 minutes or until internal temperature reaches 160F

7Toast hoagie rolls lightly on grill while brats are finishing up

8Finish brats with second half of beer. Brats should have the casing starting to break open and little geysers of brat juice should be spewing out

  2. Some of the beer makes it past the grates but the vast majority evaporates.
